The only Group A match outside Riyadh
Aramco Stadium in Khobar hosts this one, the single Group A fixture played away from the capital. Khobar sits on the Gulf coast, more than four hundred kilometres east of Riyadh, and the change of city matters more than it might: both squads travel, and both arrive at a ground neither has played at.
On the second matchday, with Saudi Arabia expected to take one of the two qualifying places, this is plausibly the match that decides the other. Palestine reached the round of 16 in 2023 and would like to treat that as a floor rather than a peak. Kuwait, at an eleventh Asian Cup, have not been past the group stage in decades.
Neither side has the luxury of a draw being useful. The four best third-placed teams also go through, which means a point here keeps both alive on paper, but it leaves the arithmetic in the hands of results in five other groups.
