The hosts back at King Fahd
Saudi Arabia return to the ground where they opened the tournament, five days later and with the group already taking shape. Second matchdays are where host nations either settle the argument or start a difficult conversation.
Oman arrive as the side with the least to lose and a genuine reason to believe. They came through qualification as second-round group winners, which is the same route Saudi Arabia would have taken had they not already been in as hosts, and their 2019 campaign showed they can take a tournament match to a stronger opponent.
For Saudi Arabia the calculation is simpler and less comfortable. Three titles, none since 1996, and a first home Asian Cup that the country has waited nineteen editions to stage. A win here effectively settles first place in Group A. Anything else and the final round in Jeddah becomes something other than a formality.
