What the round of 16 changed

Palestine reached the round of 16 in 2023, and it changed what this tournament means for them. Their first two appearances, in 2015 and 2019, had produced nothing like it; the 2023 run turned the Asian Cup from an event they attended into one they compete in.

This is a fourth appearance in total, all of them since 2015. They open against the hosts in Riyadh on 7 January, the first match of the tournament, in front of what will be the largest crowd most of the squad has played in front of.

How Palestine qualified

Palestine came through as second round Group I runners-up, confirmed on 6 June 2024.
