Jordan stay in Jeddah
Jordan play their second consecutive match at King Abdullah Sports City, which is unusual in a tournament that moves most teams between cities, and which spares them a four-hundred-kilometre journey in the middle of a group stage. Bahrain travel from Riyadh to meet them.
The 2023 final changed how Jordan are approached. Before it, five appearances had produced no final at all; after it, opponents plan for a side that reached one. Whether that is an advantage or a burden usually becomes clear in the second group match rather than the first.
Bahrain have the older tournament history of the two, going back to 1988, and the better single result before 2023: fourth place in 2004. Nothing in the twenty years since has come close, which is what makes a group without a former champion worth taking seriously.
