The knockout place that changed the record

Before 2023, Indonesia had never won a knockout match at an Asian Cup. They had barely won anything at one at all: five appearances, four of them without a single victory. Then came Qatar, a win over Vietnam, and a round of 16 place that arrived partly through results elsewhere but counted all the same.

They qualified for 2027 as second-round runners-up. Group F then handed them Japan and Qatar, four titles and two, plus Thailand. Two of the four go home after three matches.
