Two titles and a sixty-seven-year wait
South Korea won the first two Asian Cups, in 1956 and 1960, and have not won one since. Sixty-seven years is the longest active drought of any former champion, and it has not been for want of chances: four lost finals, the most recent in 2015, and semi-finals in most of the tournaments in between.
This is a sixteenth appearance, level with Iran for the most among the 2027 field, and South Korea have played in every edition since 1956 bar a handful. Group E should be straightforward: South Korea are its only former champion, and the United Arab Emirates are the only other side in it to have played a final. The draw is not the problem. February is.
How South Korea qualified
South Korea came through as second round Group C winners, confirmed on 6 June 2024.
