Back after forty-one years

Forty-one years. That is the gap between the only previous Singapore appearance at an Asian Cup, hosted at home in 1984, and the 2-1 win over Hong Kong in November 2025 that finally took them back on merit.

It leaves them with a second appearance and almost nothing to draw on: no points at a finals tournament, no knockout football, no recent measure of where they stand against the continent. Group D supplies one straight away, in the shape of Australia, Iraq and Tajikistan.

How Singapore qualified

Singapore came through as third round Group C winners, confirmed on 18 November 2025.
