A good start, then a harder one

Kyrgyzstan have been to two Asian Cups and reached the knockout stage on debut. Reaching the knockout stage at a first attempt is a better start than most nations manage, and it remains their best finish.

The follow-up in 2023 was harder: three defeats and an early exit. A third appearance therefore arrives with the question of which of those two campaigns is the real measure, against a Group C containing Iran, China and Syria that will answer it quickly.
