Six tournaments, one title

Australia have only been eligible for six Asian Cups. They joined the AFC from Oceania, entered their first tournament in 2007 and won the title in 2015 as hosts, beating South Korea in extra time. Few sides have converted a short history into silverware that quickly.

They qualified for 2027 as second-round group winners in March 2024, among the first teams through. Group D pairs them with Iraq, a former champion, and with Tajikistan and Singapore, which makes the opening two matches more important than the seeding suggests.

How Australia qualified

Australia came through as second round Group I winners, confirmed on 26 March 2024.
